Debridement & Wound Hygiene
Instruments for biofilm removal, wound bed preparation, and tissue management — from three manufacturers.
Sharp and mechanical — two approaches to the same problem.
Effective wound bed preparation often requires both sharp debridement (precise tissue removal with bladed instruments) and mechanical debridement (biofilm disruption through friction or sonic vibration). Our portfolio covers both.
Histologics is unique in that their Kylon® devices deliver both modalities in a single instrument — while simultaneously capturing tissue samples for culture or histology.
Sharp Debridement
Precise removal of necrotic tissue using bladed instruments or curettes.
EZ Debride · Histologics
Sonic Debridement
Biofilm disruption through friction, micro-vibration, or controlled abrasion.
XSONX · Histologics
Both in One Tool
Sharp + sonic debridement with simultaneous tissue sampling.

Disposable Sharp Debridement
EZ Debride®
A single-use sharp debridement instrument with cutting flutes, a flexible neck, and an ergonomic handle. Creates a bloody wound bed (not bleeding) that optimizes topical product absorption and stimulates healing — with significantly less pain than traditional sharp instruments.
- Precise, pain-sensitive tissue removal
- Disposable — no sterilization needed
- Billable under CPT 97597/97598
- Broad scope of practice

Sonic Wound Hygiene
XSONX® Wound Hygiene System
A sonic-powered wound hygiene platform that disrupts biofilm through micro-vibration. The system includes interchangeable wound heads for different wound types and the XSCRUB® cleansing pad for gentle, effective wound bed preparation.
- Sonic vibration disrupts biofilm at the cellular level
- Interchangeable heads for different wound types
- XSCRUB® pad for gentle wound cleansing
- Reduced patient pain vs. sharp debridement

Histologics Kylon® Devices
The Kylon® line delivers both sharp and mechanical debridement in a single instrument — while simultaneously capturing tissue samples for culture, PCR, or histology. Four devices, each designed for a specific clinical need.

SoftBiopsy® +D
Kylon® brush-biopsy for wounds — gentle tangential sampling with minimal trauma.
Histologics' multi-patented brush biopsy device provides a compassionate yet effective alternative to wound sampling for histology, culture or molecular testing. The Kylon® medical fabric tip is designed for compassionate friction-based curettage tangential wound biopsy — optimally used following debridement at the wound base to analyze the presence of organisms in biofilm or planktonic infection.
- Solid Tissue for Culture/PCR
- Debride & Sample in One Step
- Snap-off Tissue Container
- FDA Registered
- Single-use, disposable

Soft K-Cot®
Fingertip Kylon® pad for precise soft debridement and optional tissue capture.

Soft K-Cot® is a sterile, non-latex fingercot coated at the fingertip with an oval shaped Kylon® pad conditioned and suitable for debridement. Histologics has innovated pressure modulation via 'Debridement on a digit with single finger control™' and 'No one fears the Finger™'. The Kylon® hooks retain the sample for culture, molecular testing, or anatomic pathology analysis.
- Controlled Access, Great Feel
- Hooks Lift Slough/Biofilm
- Single-use; Discard After Use
- Sterile, non-latex fingercot
- "Debridement on a digit with single finger control™"

Soft K-Rette®
Slim Kylon® brush-curette for narrow/crevice debridement and sampling.

The Soft K-Rette® curette is designed to be both minimally invasive and clinically effective for wound debridement and tissue sampling. Its tapered brush tip follows the contours of wound crevices to reach debris on the wound surface. Using brushing, sweeping, or rotational motions, it removes necrotic tissue, slough, foreign debris, and residual dressing material. Effectively prepares the wound area for skin grafting.
- Reaches Tight Spaces & Crevices
- Efficient Debris Lift & Capture
- Snap-off Tissue Container
- FDA Registered
- Ideal for inter-digitary wounds

Soft K-Bride®
Curved Kylon® brush-curette to contour margins and prep the wound bed.

The Soft K-Bride® trumpet-shaped tip is designed for flat or curved wounds visible on the body surface. Our newest wound-care device, it is FDA Compliant & Registered, reimbursable for debridement and wound-bed prep, and designed for both sharp and surgical debridement. The hooks can gently induce micro-punctate bleeding to instill an inflammatory immune reaction, returning the wound to active-phase healing.
- "Saucerizes" the Wound Bed
- Dislodges Necrosis/Biofilm
- Snap-off Tissue Container
- FDA Registered
- Handle has centimeter markings up to 10cm
What clinicians say.
"The gentle Kylon® debridement tools helped me clear chronic wounds that otherwise would need OR and anesthesia."
Ebonie Vincent DPM
Orange, CA
"I absolutely love this product. I use it consistently with my sharp curette. I get all the debris and biofilm off my wound bed and gets my wound nice and beefy red prior to applying new wound care."
Tira Bolder
Therapeutic Hands, PLLC
"The Soft K-Cots provide a gentle yet highly effective method for removing non-viable tissue while protecting surrounding healthy skin."
Advanced Comfort Health
Wound Care Clinicians
"This product allowed the patients to remain comfortable and safe while having their wound debrided. We were able to teach local clinicians how to use the product."
Blair Burlingame
Amanaki Fo'ou
When to use mechanical debridement.
Biofilm & Slough Management
First-line intervention for wound biofilm. Regular removal disrupts the bacterial community and restores the wound to a healing trajectory.
Before Advanced Therapy
Thorough wound bed preparation before applying biologics or wound matrix therapies. Removes barriers to graft adherence.
Pain-Sensitive Patients
For patients who can't tolerate sharp debridement — including those with neuropathy, anticoagulation, or procedural anxiety.
Routine Wound Hygiene
Incorporating mechanical debridement into routine protocols supports consistent wound bed maintenance and improves documentation.
