A chronic/nonhealing wound refers to a wound that doesn’t follow the typical progression of healing stages. It’s as if these wounds have lost the ability to heal naturally. Whether the wound has been present for a short period or several years, it doesn’t show signs of improvement with standard treatment methods, regardless of its type.

Yes, Indeed, the EZDebride Wound Instrument is a sharp debridement tool specifically designed to efficiently remove biofilm, bio-burden, and tissue slough from wound surfaces. Although ongoing research aims to provide comprehensive answers, several common factors contribute to the failure of chronic wounds to heal. Chief among these is insufficient blood circulation to the wound site. Infection within the wound and inadequate overall nutrition are also significant contributors. Underlying medical conditions like cancer or diabetes can impair the body’s natural healing processes. Additionally, previous radiation exposure and sustained pressure on the affected area further impede the healing process.

Addressing chronic wounds is a multifaceted process often requiring collaboration among various specialized professionals. Typically, treatment involves managing underlying infections, removing dead tissue through debridement, and enhancing blood circulation to the wound site. Managing tissue swelling (edema), optimizing glucose levels for diabetic patients, and addressing underlying chronic conditions are also key aspects. Should standard interventions prove ineffective, advanced therapies like bio-engineered tissue grafts may be necessary for successful wound healing.
